Sobriety can do wonders for your love life. Sober men make better dates, and they make better partners. That’s why many people prefer dating someone who doesn’t drink or use drugs. Here are just eight of the many ways in which sober men are more attractive to women.
1. They’re easier on the eyes.
Heavy drinking takes a toll on your appearance. It dulls your hair and skin and takes the spark out of your eyes. It can lead to the dreaded paunch, a puffy face and bags and dark circles under the eyes. The slack-jawed expression, sour breath and sloppy demeanor of a man who’s been drinking heavily isn’t going to be attractive, and it will downright repel many more.
2. They’re better in bed.
Sober men are more attractive because they’re in the game mentally, and they don’t generally have the same, to put it delicately, “mechanical problems” that alcohol and other drugs commonly cause. They’re generally more attentive, less sloppy and less likely to pass out right after.
3. They don’t forget what they said last night.
Many people have heard one thing while he’s drunk and entirely another when he’s sober. Drugs and alcohol can lower inhibitions and lead a man to say things he may not really mean; it can make him forget entire intimate conversations. Sober men don’t have to worry about saying something they shouldn’t, and they’re pretty likely to remember everything they did say.
4. They’re more financially stable.
Drinking is expensive, and it puts a big dent in your finances. Even moderate drinking takes a major financial toll down the road.1 Just five drinks a week at $6 per drink adds up to $1,560 every year. Investing that amount can amass you $123,331 in 30 years. Or it can pay for the occasional romantic getaway.
5. They won’t pee in the silverware drawer.
Drunk men are notorious for somehow getting lost in the night while sleep-walking to the toilet. There’s nothing that is more of a turn off than waking up to urine in the clothes dryer. Sober men just don’t do that.
6. They’re more interesting.
There comes a point during a night of heavy drinking where a man ceases to be interesting. He may think he is, but it’s very hard to stay interesting once you no longer have control over your faculties. Sober guys, on the other hand, can keep the captivating conversation going all night long. Plus, you don’t have to call him a cab at the end of the night.
7. Sober men are more attractive because they’re less unpredictable.
Unpredictability can be a good thing, but not when referring to the big, important things. Alcohol and drug addiction can make a man unpredictable. One minute, everything might be fine, and the next, everything’s falling apart and emotions are running hot. Sober men are less likely to be unpredictable in these negative ways. They are more likely to keep a date and stay on an even emotional keel throughout.
8. They’re healthier.
Drugs and alcohol are bad for your health. Drug overdose caused more than 64,000 deaths in 2016, and it’s is the second-leading cause of death among young people.2 Additionally, 88,000 people between the ages of 20 and 64 die every year from alcohol-related causes. That doesn’t include deaths related to driving while under the influence, which claims more than 10,000 lives each year.3
Sobriety has a lot of benefits, and attracting others is just one. If you’re ready to kick a drug or alcohol addiction to the curb and enjoy a life of sobriety, help is just a phone call away.
