Sober Living – The Fourth Dimension
The vision for Real Recovery was hatched in my heart and mind long ago as I sat in mediocre sober living facilities across the east coast hoping for a new and refreshing change in my life. It was clear to me that if I was going to have fun in recovery, it was going to be up to me to create it.
I found myself rallying guys together in these houses and planning waterfall excursions, Frisbee golf games, tubing trips, and anything else I could think of that would free my mind from the daily worry and overwhelming nature of being a young man trying to find my way in this new and sometimes terrifying world. I didn’t realize it at the time, but what I was searching for was a free pass to the fourth dimension.
The “Big Book” of Alcoholics Anonymous mentions the fourth dimension which, in my interpretation, is to be completely in the present. Living without fear of the future or regret of the past is where I find the most peace and serenity. That peaceful state of mind can sometimes be very elusive to a newly recovering and overwhelmed young addict.
The feeling found in the fourth dimension takes a great deal of hard work and a dedicated work ethic toward sobriety. I found out pretty quickly and naturally that when I was on a snowboard flying down a hill or playing a simple game of Frisbee golf I was instantly catapulted into this wonderful state of mind.
The activities that force us to be in the present are so extremely vital to falling in love with our new sober minds. Our main job at Real Recovery is to show our guys a life that truly blows their minds sober! Our guys often realize that they had been searching for the fourth dimension their entire using lives only to realize it couldn’t be found through those deadly channels.
At Real Recovery, we plan adventure-based trips and other activities to help guys build connections and find their own “fourth dimension” – and fulfillment along with it. Our entire program and each of our four residences are designed to encourage social connections among like-minded young men who can support and have fun with each other.
If you or someone you know believe that Real Recovery can help you find your own “fourth dimension” and overcome your struggles with substance abuse, call 1-855-363-725 today.
